Global nursing issues III

Ethical issues in nursing. The subject introduces the student to bioethical decision-making within a nursing context. A variety of clinical ethical issues will be examined, such as those related to patient competence and informed consent, paternalism, sanctity and quality of life, resource allocation, industrial action by nurses, research and experimentation, and reproductive technologies. A number of strategies will be considered that may assist nurses in resolving ethical dilemmas and moral distress. The subject is taught by lectures, tutorials, group work, debates and audiovisual presentations.

Assessment

Assignment: 60% * Examinations (45 minutes): 40%
