Applied basic physics and chemistry I

3 points * 3 hours per week * First semester * Peninsula

Intracellular and extracellular fluids, salt compositions, water and salt balances. Dehydration. Osmosis. Elements, atoms, molecules and compounds. Simple formulae and equations. Acidity, alkalinity and pH. Respiratory and kidney systems. SI units. Forces of weight, levers, mechanics of lifting, traction devices. Electrical current, voltage. Cathode ray oscilloscope and its applications in EEG. ECG, electricity in the body, treatment using electricity, safety. The subject is taught by lectures, tutorials, demonstrations and laboratory work.

Assessment

Examination: 70% * Laboratory assessment: 30%
