Issues in nursing 4: perspectives on the health/illness experience

This subject acknowledges the importance of students' understanding of illness as a human experience in order to identify and fulfil the caring role in nursing. Literary works, readings from people's experience of illness, film, drama and various other art forms will provide the basis of the study of illness for this subject. A range of fiction and non-fiction highlighting illness experience will be explored. Students and staff will undertake this subject as co-learners. The format for study will be reading followed by class presentation and group discussion; students keep a professional journal as a basis for reflection. Attendance and participation in group discussion is mandatory.
