6 points * Second semester * 30 hours of lectures, 8 hours of tutorials, 12 hours of laboratory classes * Gippsland * Prerequisites: GAS1095

This is the first of a sequence of four subjects in the area of bioscience. The aim of this sequence is to give students the necessary background in human anatomy and physiology upon which to build a firm foundation for their clinical skills in nursing. This task begins with an introduction to anatomical terminology and the organisation of the body. Cell structure and function is introduced, followed by an examination of tissues and the way in which they are arranged to form organs. Brief overviews of the integumentary, cardiovascular, nervous and digestive systems follow. The respiratory and muscoskeletal systems are then examined in detail.

Assessment

Laboratory component: 30% * Examinations: 70% * To obtain a pass in the subject, a pass must be gained in both the practical and theory components
