Final-year prizes

Arthur Clark Award in Paediatrics

A prize of $200, a certificate and a literary book selected by the department, to the student who in paediatrics demonstrates the highest ability as assessed by the results of a clinical examination. The five students obtaining the highest marks overall in the fifth-year paediatrics assessment are selected as candidates for this clinical examination, scheduled for the following year.

Monash Medical Centre Award in Paediatrics

A prize of $100 to the sixth-year student who submits the best longitudinal study of the development of an infant.

Alfred Hospital Residents' and Graduates' Association Prize

A prize of $200 to the sixth-year student who, after studying in the Alfred Hospital Clinical School, obtains the highest aggregate of marks in the sixth-year examinations.

Monash Medical Centre Board of Management Prize

A prize of $100 and a medallion to the sixth-year student from the Monash Medical Centre Clinical School who obtains the highest aggregate of marks in the award of the MBgBS degree with honours.

Monash Medical Centre Senior Medical Staff Prize in Psychological Medicine

A prize of $250 to the sixth-year student who, after studying at the Monash Medical Centre Clinical School, demonstrates the highest ability in psychological medicine.

Sophie Davis Memorial Prize

A gold medallion and $75 for the student who obtains the highest aggregate marks in the award of the MBgBS degree with honours.

RACP Victorian State Committee Prize in Clinical Medicine (MMC and Alfred)

Prizes of a plaque and a $100 book voucher, one each at MMC and Alfred Clusters, for the top final- year students in clinical medicine at each cluster determined by the highest mark in the final-year clinical exams (long case and OSCA).

Association of Monash Medical Graduates' Prize

An award of $250 together with a medallion to the sixth-year student who is judged by his or her colleagues to be the outstanding student during the course of the MBgBS degree.

Monash Medical Centre Psychiatry Unit Prize

A prize of $300 to the sixth-year student who, after studying in the Monash Medical Centre Clinical School, obtains the highest aggregate of marks, or the most deserving student as determined by the head of unit, in the sixth-year psychological medicine rotation.

Alfred Hospital Psychiatry Unit Prize

A prize of $300 to the sixth-year student who obtains the highest aggregate of marks, or the most deserving student as determined by the head of unit in the sixth-year psychological medicine rotation at the Alfred Hospital Clinical School.

Australian Medical Association Prize

An award of $1000 to the sixth-year student who obtains the highest aggregate of marks in the sixth-year examinations.

Community Medicine Prize

An award of $250 to the sixth-year student who obtains the highest marks in the community medicine assessment.

Sir Edward Hughes Medal and Prize

A medal with a cheque awarded to the sixth-year student who demonstrates the highest ability in surgery as determined by the results of the final year exam. A small number of students will be invited by the head of the Department of Surgery to sit for a separate clinical examination.

Bryan Hudson Prize in Medicine

A prize awarded by the Department of Medicine (Monash Medical Centre) for the best student essay on a patient seen during the fifth year of the course. The prize consists of a medal and a scroll.

The Ciba-Geigy Prize

This prize, comprising the Ciba collection of medical illustrations by Dr Frank Netter - currently twelve volumes, is awarded to the top final-year student by Ciba-Geigy Australia Limited.

Australasian College of Dermatologists Prize in Dermatology

A prize of $100 and a textbook awarded to the student who obtains the highest marks in an examination conducted by the Victorian faculty of the college.

Harriet and Robert Power Scholarships in Medicine and Surgery

The trustees of a fund established in memory of the late Harriet and Robert Power have granted a scholarship, awarded annually, to encourage the acquisition of sound practical knowledge of the principles of medicine and surgery. The awards are open only to final year students from the Alfred Hospital Clinical School and are determined by a written exam, followed by a vive voce for selected candidates, arranged by the clinical supervisor on behalf of the Alfred Hospital board.

Harry Hindlip Green Scholarship in Medicine

A fund established by Frederick Richard Green to commemorate the naming of his son. Awarded annually for excellence in the area of medicine. The award is open only to final-year Alfred medical students and is determined by a written exam, followed by a vive voce for selected students, arranged by the clinical supervisor on behalf of the Alfred Hospital board.
