1 hour 45 minutes per week over 14 weeks * Second semester
The aim is to broadly demonstrate the way to recognise, evaluate and control hazards in workplaces arising from substances, sound, radiation and micro-organisms. At the end of this subject, students will have a broad knowledge of the principles and practice of occupational hygiene including the use of simple instruments, ventilation, microbiological safety, radiation safety, personal protective clothing and workplace substances laws. Students will also be aware of hygienic standards and their various forms and notations and will recognise the difficulties of assessing prior exposures for medico-legal and epidemiological purposes. Knowledge will be reinforced by at least two worksite visits.
