Disease prevention and rehabilitation

The dual aims of this subject are to convey the principles of how to manage the return to work of injured workers and the principles of preventing occupational disease and injury. At the end of this subject, students will be aware of the various services offered to assist the return to work of injured workers and concepts such as impairment, disability, handicap and quantitative medical examination. They will be aware of the influence on vocational rehabilitation of chronic pain, heart disease, common locomotor disorders and `stress'. In addition, students will have a broad understanding of the principles of prevention of injuries and disease at work exemplified by statutory requirements and health promotion strategies.
