Infectious diseases

In fifth year students will spend a two-week attachment at Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital. They will be given clinical instruction in infectious diseases together with lectures and laboratory sessions in clinical microbiology. These will illustrate the intelligent use of the laboratory, the interpretation of laboratory results and their correlation with clinical observation. Students have the opportunity to live-in at the hospital for after hours exposure to acute infectious disease problems. The department conducts a wide range of research into all areas of microbiology and infectious diseases. Students with an interest in pursuing these topics are invited to discuss with staff members the possibility of either elective programs or research programs.
