Medicine and research

This program is designed to expose students to medical research carried out within the faculty. It will serve two useful purposes, namely to expose students to scientific methodologies and their application to clinical medicine; and to highlight to students the scientific strengths of the faculty. All departments and institutes attached to the university will take part in this activity. It is proposed that three or four students examine research projects carried out by departments or institutes within the faculty. They will share the task of presenting the topic to the rest of the class. Presentations should incorporate detailed background information, the aims of the study, its results and discussions on future directions for research. The clinical relevance of the study should be highlighted. The presentation will be forty-five minutes per group of four students (ten minutes per student plus five minutes general discussion). Each session in the first and second terms will be an hour and a half long so that two groups may make presentations and representatives of the departments where the research is being carried out may attend. Students from other groups may also attend presentation sessions.
