Head and neck

Professor D H Barkla (Anatomy)

Students will be provided with core information about the structures comprising the head and neck, discuss the embryological development of these structures and relate this information to commonly occurring congenital abnormalities. In addition, students will be taught how to solve clinical problems involving the head and neck, and be introduced to clinical teaching and patients. This study will complement teaching in neurosciences.

Neurosciences

Dr J A Rawson (Physiology)

A comprehensive approach to the study of the central nervous system will be provided. The program will consist of a detailed dissection of the human brain in combination with an analysis of its motor, sensory and integrative functions. In addition, it will provide a basis for the understanding of neuropharmacology. Throughout the program the clinical aspects of central nervous system function will be emphasised, with correlation classes covering such areas as the examination of the nervous system, brain imaging, diagnosis and treatment of selected disorders.
