Clinical and communication skills I
Dr B Canny (Physiology) and Dr M Kidd (Community Medicine)
Over two semesters, students will be introduced to the basic elements of the taking of a medical history and be given the opportunity to learn skills of hands-on physical examination. There will be close integration between the theoretical information taught in MED2011 (Cardiovascular and respiratory medicine) and MED2042 (Gastrointestinal medicine) and the application of this information in MED2061/2062 (Clinical and communication skills). The material taught in MED2061/2062 in second year will build on the communication skills acquired in first year and continue the use of medical contact visits associated with defined and structured aims. Medical contact visits and clinical skills sessions will be supported by a detailed workbook. Case study projects will be developed with themes to complement the parallel studies in respiratory medicine and principles of human nutrition.
