Cell and molecular biology III
To be advised
This study provides a consolidated core of knowledge of cell and molecular biology, based on the introductory studies encountered by students in the first year. The major themes include chromosomes and gene expression, including principles of gene cloning; the molecular basis of cell and tissue architecture; and molecular aspects of regulation of cell growth and differentiation. Students are provided with essential foundations for the study of differentiation and of abnormal cell growth, to be developed in subsequent second and third-year studies, and for understanding the expanding role of molecular biology in the practice of medicine.

Basic haematology
Professor M T W Hearn (Biochemistry) and Dr D Bowden (Anatomy)
This study introduces students to the fundamentals of molecular, cellular and clinical haematology. Topics covered will include the development and morphology of the cellular components of blood, red blood cells, anaemia, vitamins B12 and folic acid, iron metabolism, the function and disorders of white blood cells, coagulation and platelet function and measurement in haematology.
