Community medicine

A six-week program in clinical practice in the community. Students are rostered in small groups to participate in an intensive course which includes clinical clerkships in metropolitan and country general practices, and seminars and teaching sessions held at the Community Medicine General Practice Teaching Unit at East Bentleigh. Students are provided with handbooks produced by the department. Innovations in teaching methods include use of the learning laboratory and practical training in consulting skills. Staff of the Department of Community Medicine also participate in seminar programs held at both the Alfred Hospital and the Monash Medical Centre.

Assessment

Assessment contributes 10% of the final-year mark as outlined above
