This subject deals with selected areas of the law governing the commercial navigation of the sea. The subject focuses on the law of carriage of goods by sea, and on marine insurance. Topics covered in this area include bills of lading (including the Hague and Hague-Visby rules), charter parties (voyage and time) and hull and cargo policies of marine insurance. In addition, a number of matters related to the main topics are considered, including the nature of, and practice in, the admiralty jurisdiction; collisions and limitation of liability for damage; oil pollution; salvage; protections and indemnity insurance.
