One 2-hour seminar weekly over 13 weeks

The topics covered include the history and evolution of commercial arbitration; is commercial arbitration private litigation?; statutory regime - an analysis of the so-called uniform acts; the arbitration agreement; the arbitrator's jurisdiction; appointment and role of arbitrator; conduct of arbitration proceedings; natural justice and arbitration; awards and costs; power of courts in commercial arbitration; interlocutory powers and remission of the award, misconduct and right of appeal; international commercial arbitration; training and accreditation of arbitrators.

Assessment:

Research paper (5000 words): 50% * Supervised examination: 40% * Class participation: 10%
