One 2-hour seminar weekly over 13 weeks * First semester
The subject covers the branch of intellectual property which protects literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works; films; sound recordings; television and radio broadcasts; published editions of works; and industrial designs for manufactured products. The focus of the subject is the operation of Australian copyright and designs legislation and pertinent case law, as well as the scope of this body of law in relation to new areas of technological innovation such as that of computer software. Additional consideration will be given to the development of new sui generis forms of protection, such as that contained in the Circuit Layouts Act 1989 (Cth), and international and comparative materials will be discussed, where relevant.
