The subject involves a study of the legal regulation of banks and similar financial institutions in Australia and of the mainstream of banking transactions. It examines the contract of banker and customer, the cardinal principles of negotiable instruments (with emphasis on cheques) and their use in Australia and the payment and collection of cheques. It also covers giro and electronic money transfers, the operation of automatic teller machines and typical devices such as cheques, credit cards and traveller's cheques. Letters of credit may also be covered.
