Mr P Heffey

0 points * Three 1-hour lectures per week and one 1-hour tutorial per fortnight * Full-year subject * Clayton

The law of torts is concerned with the legal principles governing the compensation of persons who suffer physical injury to their person and to their property, and also economic loss without personal injury or property damage. The subject does not deal with every tort or with every way in which the law compensates persons for civil injuries, but rather highlights those interests - personal, proprietary and economic - which are most commonly invaded and most securely protected. There is an emphasis throughout the subject on the development and reform of the law of torts.

Assessment

First semester - Class test (50 minutes): 15% * Second semester - Class test (50 minutes) or negotiation exercise or moot court or written research assignment (1500 words): 15%. Only one of these four forms of assessment need be attempted
