This subject is designed as a general introduction to legal studies. It is aimed at furnishing students with a basic understanding of the structure of the Australian legal system and its processes. Some fundamental legal concepts will be taught and an awareness inculcated of basic historical, philosophical and social aspects relevant to legal study. Students will be introduced to the methodology of legal research and the analytical and interpretive skills necessary for legal studies.

Assessment

Class assessment: 10% * Research assignment: 30% * Final examination: 60%
