Systems analysis

5 points * 26 lecture hours, 26 tutorial hours * First semester * Caulfield/Peninsula

Introduction to information systems: concepts, theory, the system development lifecycle, roles in the development process. Business systems: common business systems, the role and types of information systems within business systems. Systems analysis: the nature of systems analysis, information gathering. Data-centred analysis: techniques, including entity relationship modelling, normalisation, function modelling and procedure diagrams. Process-centred analysis: techniques, including data flow diagrams and minispecs. Evaluation, analysis and comparison of techniques and methods. Quality assurance techniques during systems analysis (eg walkthroughs, reviews, standards etc).

Assessment

Examinations (3 hours): 50% * Practical work and tutorial work: 50%
