Occupational health and safety environment

Safety: current experiences and future projections, the moral, legal and economic impetus for change. Principles of accident prevention: the methodology of safety. Review of requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act: ergonomics. Fire safety, occupational hygiene, machine guarding, hazardous materials, noise. Environmental standards: waste disposal, gaseous, liquid and solid methods of monitoring, regulation and the statutory authorities.

Assessment

Examinations (3 hours): 80% * Assignments and tests: 20%
