Evaluation of hardware platforms and areas of application, benchmarking, identification of office needs. Types of peripheral equipment, CD ROMs, scanners, printers. Local area networks and interfacing to hardware platforms, ethernet, electronic mail, facsimile, modems. Office integration, hardware, software, peripherals and LAN. Information security, unauthorised entry, backup and software security. Assessing technology strengths and weaknesses. Duty specifications for specific needs. Operating procedures. Training needs. Case studies, site visits, evaluation of specific requirements. Evaluation of company brochures and technical information.

Assessment

Examinations (2 hours): 50% * Practical work: 50%
