Advanced manufacturing technology

Overview of current CIM (computer-integrated manufacturing) technology. Introduction to computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) modelling techniques - solid modelling, surface modelling and wire frame modelling. Selection of hardware and software: CAD - software with emphasis on PC-based systems (AutoCAD, CADDSMAN). CAD - philosophy, programming details and applications examples. Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) - introduction, elements of CAM system (CNC, DNC and AC), NC part programming, CAM packages, CAD/CAM interface; conventional cutting devices, machining centres, turning centres, profile cutters; programming details and applications examples; introdution to robotic devices, components and applications of robots, programming and applications examples, task-oriented programming.

Assessment

Examinations: 4 hours * Practical work/Laboratory work: 100%
