Fracture and fatigue

4 points * 22 lecture hours, 11tutorial hours * First semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: MEC2450, MEC3408

Single and multiple load paths; the concepts of principal structural elements; the damage tolerant philosophy; linear elastic fracture mechanics; fracture toughness; the T* integral limitation and growth rules; variable amplitude loading; and the alternating finite element method. Examples are to be derived from aerospace, maritime and manufacturing industries.

Assessment

Tutorial: 20% * Examinations (3 hours): 80%
