This subject considers aspects of the history of technology from ancient times to the present day, emphasising particularly the evolution of Western technology and its influence in the development of modern industrial society. The relationships between science, technology, society and government are also examined, together with legal aspects of importance to professional engineers in industrial societies and ecological considerations in examining the difference between natural systems and those designed by man.
