Criteria for selection of materials for mechanical design. The influence on the design/materials selection process of operational requirements, manufacturing processes, failure modes, notch sensitivity and crack propogation, corrosion, and tribology (wear, lubrication and surface roughness). Examples and case studies of mechanical design using materials selection criteria and constraints.

Assessment
