Basic financial accounting: concepts, techniques and conventions. Understanding corporate annual reports: basic financial statements; analysis of financial statements; principal inventory measurement methods. Introduction to costing systems: costing terminology; use of predetermined costs; actual, normal and standard costing; cost allocations; job, process and activity costing systems; life cycle costing. Costing in the new manufacturing environment. The importance of non-financial performance measures. Use of accounting computing packages.

Assessment

Examinations (3 hours): 60% * Assignments: 40%
