Human factor and ergonomics: ergnomics for preventing workplace injuries and in design of workstation layout. Overview of human anthropometry and its associated data. Task analysis in an ergonomic context. Cost benefits of an ergonomic program. Office organisation: the office as part of the function, overhead costs, effect of the office on business success. Organisational structure and behaviour, work to be done, work tracking, communications, role of computers, reporting requirements. Function and design of forms. Information gathering and analysis. Types of database, procedure modelling, data modelling, E-R diagrams, functional diagrams, normalisation. Structuring the new information system; from the current to the proposed information system; converting data into information; basic data processing steps. Documenting the design. Design and implementation of a computerised system using microcomputers. Implementation of new systems in a business or manufacturing environment. Training organisational impact.
