1. Self-management: communication - the importance of good communication; barriers to effective communication; types of communications, written, verbal and non-verbal. Organising time. Group dynamics. Decision making and problem solving. Job applications and interviews. Stress management. 2. Ethics and professionalism. Maintenance of professional competence. 3. An introduction to professional negligence and liability. 4. Engineering management: engineering organisations - structure, management, behaviour of people in organisations. Organisation of engineering work. The management process - planning, organising, motivation and leading, controlling. Supervisory skills, directing, delegating and negotiating. 5. An introduction to the industrial relations system and the processes involved. Industrial conflict and wage determination. 6. An introduction to health and safety at work.

Assessment

Examinations: 70% * Assignments: 30%
