Thermodynamics II

Steam plant: analysis of different cycles; h.s. chart; binary vapour cycle; modern boiler plant; steam condensers and steam for process work. Positive displacement machines: compressors types and analysis; rotary machines and air motors. Nozzles: nozzle shape and sonic velocity; critical pressure ratio; choked flow; nozzle efficiency; steam nozzle. Gas turbines and reciprocating internal combustion engines: basic cycle and modification for gas turbines; four and two-stroke internal combustion engines analysis; performance etc.

Assessment

Examinations (3 hours ): 60% * Assignments: 40%
