Fundamentals: measurement principles, limits of measurement, intrinsic and extrinsic noise. Measurement in an industrial environment. Transducers and transmitters: principles and limitations, temperature, pressure and flow, displacement, velocity and acceleration transducers. Building blocks: instrumentation and isolation amplifier, multiplexors, sample and hold amplifiers, A-D and D-A converters. Signal conditioning and manipulation: filtering, linearisation, averaging and correlation techniques.

Assessment

Examinations (2 hours): 60% * Assignments: 40%
