Process concepts: basic process elements; plant, measurements, controller. Control loop topologies. Control hierarchies: direct digital control, supervisory control, distributed control configurations, batch sequencing, process interface, control safety. Modelling and identification: development of first and second-order models. DDC algorithms and tuning: three-term controller structures and tuning. Digital filters, Deadbeat, Dahlin controllers. Selection of sampling interval. Effect of noise due to finite word length.

Assessment

Examinations (2 hours): 70% * Laboratory work: 30%
