Telecommunication networks; services, telephone traffic, equipment, signalling, switching, line characteristics, transmission, multiplexing, pulse code modulation. Australian telecommunication networks. Optical fibre communication systems: fibre types, modes of transmission, multiplexing, signal degradation, optical sources and receivers, modulation and other applications.

Assessment

Examinations (3 hours): 80% * Laboratory work; 20%
