Digital transmission and optical systems

Digital transmission: line codes, modulated digital data transmission systems (DSB-SC, SSB, VSB and QAM), spectra, detection and error rate performance. Optical systems: single-mode optical transmission along a fibre, electro-luminescent sources (LED and laser diodes), photodetectors (PIN and APD), coupling, receiver design, homodyne and heterodyne (coherent) optical systems.
