Computer systems engineering III

4 points * 26 lectures, 24 laboratory hours * First semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: ECS2370 (Computer systems engineering I) at PI level

Logic circuit design techniques applied to integrated circuit systems including microcomputers. Computer organisation: registers, ALU, program counter, memory, bus interconnections. Instruction sets and assembly language programming for the 8086. Input/output structures and techniques: addressing, timing and control, including interrupt structures. Microprocessor interfacing including memory. Logic family design and implementation: TTL, ECL and CMOS. Timing constraints, clock skew and synchronisation failure. An introduction to nMOS VLSI design.

Assessment

Examinations (3 hours): 90% * Laboratory work: 10%
