Management I

Introduction to communication and theory of communication in group settings. Effective listening, non verbal communication, oral presentations, organisation and planning, audience and objective, use of visual aids, the mechanics of effective presentation. Study skills: reading, skimming versus studying, note taking, summarising. Library-based research: Sesame 2, CD-ROM, on-line searches. Technical writing: clear exposition, memos, technical reports. Meetings: planning and preparation, roles and leadership Special meeting techniques: interviewing and being interviewed Job applications: covering letters and resume writing, negotiations in organisations, cross-cultural negotiation and team building.

Assessment

Written: 60% * Examinations (2 hours): 40%
