Project planning: preconstruction activities, site preparation and clearing, project control including quality and cost control, supervision, day labour, contract, safety considerations. Drainage and earthworks: investigation, design, plant and equipment, construction methods. Pavements: earth, formed, gravel, flexible and rigid, location and field evaluation of materials, pavement design, plant and equipment, quarrying and sand production, construction methods, recycling, stabilisation including use of geofabrics, interlocking block pavements, staged construction. Sprayed bituminous sealing and resealing. Asphalt surfacing, including asphalt overlays. Reinforced earth. Maintenance: principles and practices, drainage, earthworks, pavements, medians, roadsides, footpaths, bicycle paths, street cleaning. Pavement management systems. Municipal depots.

Assessment

Written (4000 words): 20% * Examinations (3 hours): 80%
