Soil engineering: consolidation, shear strength, soil testing methods, strength parameters. Earth stresses, Rankine and Coulomb analyses. Foundation bearing capacity and settlement theory. Geological assessment of engineering sites. Rock mechanics: mechanical behaviour, discontinuity analysis, rock reinforcement.
