Geology and soil mechanics

Geology: basic geological concepts. Properties and determinative mineralogy of the rock-forming minerals. Petrology of common rocks. Tectonics and structural geology. Geomorphology. Remote sensing. Geological maps. Soil mechanics: nature of soil, clay mineralogy, effective stress, pore pressure, seepage, permeability, flow nets.

Assessment

Written (6000 words): 20% * Examinations (3 hours): 80%
