Turbines-types, classes and specific speed, pump operating characteristics; circuit matching; pipes; energy losses, reticulation analysis, water hammer, culverts, hydraulic structures for flow measurement, hydraulics of wells, sediment transport. Open channel flow - uniform flow, gradually varying flow and rapidly varying flow; empirical friction equation; energy and momentum concepts; specific energy and critical flow; super critical and subcritical flow; hydraulic jump; channel control structures; backwater profiles; hydraulic and computer modelling of river systems.

Assessment

Examinations (3 hours): 80% * Laboratory work: 20%
