Engineering surveying I

4 points * 26 lecture hours, 26 fieldwork hours * First semester * Caulfield

Introduction to surveying; chain surveying, principle, equipment, procedure, booking, step and slope chaining, field problems, corrections to and reduction of field measurements, sources of errors. Introduction to levelling principles, use of levels (dumpy, tilting, automatic and laser) booking and reduction of levels, adjustment of level, errors in levelling, applications of levelling. Traverses, angles, bearings, coordinate geometry, misclosure, accuracy, reduction and adjustment with Bowditch rule, determination of missing parts and area of a polygon. Introduction to triangle problems using trigonometrical formulae.

Assessment

Examinations (3 hours): 80% * Fieldwork: 20%
