Beam theory, shear centre, skew bending, composite beams, combined stress. Deflections by integration of the governing differential equation, moment area method. Columns, elastic buckling, end conditions, Euler load, effective length, slenderness ratio, Southwell plot, design formulae. Application of theory of elasticity, equilibrium and compatibility, plane stress, plane strain.
