Review of beam reactions, bending moment, thrust and shear force diagrams extension to statically determinate frames. Beam theory: flexural, direct and shear stresses, torsion, shear centre, combined stress. Elementary stress analysis; normal and shear stress, stress and strain at a point; Mohr's circle, principal stresses, Hooke's law, general theory of elasticity.
