Introductory geology

3 points * 10 lectures, 24 laboratory classes, 6 site visits * First semester * Clayton

The subject gives a general introduction to physical geology and geomorphology. The main emphasis is on the interpretation of geological maps, including subsurface structure. Included in this is practice in the recognition of common rocks and minerals, and the deduction of geological histories. The background in global geology is also introduced.

Assessment

Examinations (2 hours): 30% * Practical work/Fieldwork: 70%
