Selected topics in dynamic simulation and control

W E Olbrich

3 points * 24 lectures * Second semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: CHE4110

Use of commercially available software packages to simulate the dynamic behaviour of linear, but more importantly, non-linear systems with the object of investigating the efficacy of various control strategies, including those based on the application of linear control theory to an appropriately linearised version of the non-linear system. Investigation of advanced control schemes for coping with non-linear systems - particularly for the case where errors of modelling exist between the actual system dynamics and the system model available to the control scheme. Fifty per cent of allotted time will be devoted to project work involving computer simulation.

Assessment

Examination: 70% * Project work: 30%
