Objectives The student is expected to acquire a knowledge of the factors driving the process industries to `clean production technology. The student is expected to acquire knowledge about the available methods for analysing water for drinking and for other clean uses and about methods for purifying wastewater to acceptable levels. The student is expected to acquire further knowledge about sources, methods of measurement and treatment of air pollution.

Synopsis Processes driving changes in regulations; clean production technology. Examination of water and wastewater; chemical, physical and microbiological tests; Australian drinking water guidelines. Wastewater treatment processes; activated sludge, trickling filtration, anaerobic digestion. Air pollution: meteorology, dispersion, modelling, sources and fate of major pollutants, treatment processes. Noise pollution. Hazardous wastes.
