Process design and operation I

Objectives The student is expected to acquire a basic knowledge and understanding of the environmental, safety and economics criteria which must be considered in the design of process plants.

Synopsis Project procedure and chemical engineering design activities for process plants; conception, development and construction of process flowsheets; environmental, safety, economic criteria in flowsheet development; design of utility systems; selection of pumps, compressors and mixers and design of related systems; considerations in materials selection for plant and equipment; avoiding specific forms of corrosion in plant design; use of stainless steels.

Assessment

Examinations: 60% * Projects: 40%
