Momentum transfer I

4 points * 26 lectures, 10 tutorials * Second semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: CHE1110

Objectives The student is expected to acquire a basic knowledge and understanding of momentum transfer analysis and modelling of fluid-flow phenomena in idealised or simple systems relevant to chemical and process engineering.

Synopsis An introduction to transfer processes with emphasis on momentum transfer. Topics include fluid statics - pressure and manometers, differential and integral balances of mass, momentum and energy; fluid motion; flow measurement; pipe flow and frictional losses; dimensional analysis; particle drag; pumps; Reynolds analogies.
