Graduate Diploma of Education (School Librarianship)

The Graduate Diploma of Education (School Librarianship) is designed for students with a degree and an approved teaching qualification. The course has been accredited by the Australian Library and Information Association.

Course structure

Students are required to study the following nine subjects:

*nbsp;/ /g GEC7210 Language, literacy and literature in education

*nbsp;/ /g GEC7220 Foundations of school librarianship

*nbsp;/ /g GEC7230 Administration and organisation of the resource centre

*nbsp;/ /g GEC7240 Curriculum planning and resources

*nbsp;/ /g GEC7250 Information needs and users

*nbsp;/ /g GEC7260 Organisation of information

*nbsp;/ /g GEC7270 Computer-supported information services

*nbsp;/ /g GEC7280 School librarianship professional development (0.5)

*nbsp;/ /g GEC7290 School librarianship practicum (0.5)

*nbsp;/ /g GEC7700 Special topic in school librarianship

Students will be required to undertake ten different professional activities (subject GEC7280) and twenty days of supervised practical experience (subject GEC7290) in a library staffed by trained, experienced librarians approved by the university librarianship staff. Subjects GEC7280 and GEC7290 are compulsory for all students and no student will be able to complete the qualification without having met the requirements. Graduate diploma students may enrol in any of thenbsp;/ /g electives offered by the Monash University Graduate School of Librarianship MA program in place of subject GEC7700 (Special topic in school librarianship). Monash University librarianship students may enrol in Graduate Diploma of Education (School Librarianship) subjects offered by the university as an elective for the Monash MA programs.
