Issues in mathematics, science and computing education

This subject will examine the implications for the classroom of recent developments in mathematics, science and computing education. Some of the particular issues to be addressed will include research on the learning of mathematics, science and computing - the effect of views of learning on curricula; the teaching of mathematics, science and computing K-12; the role of mathematics and science in an increasingly technological society; students disadvantaged in mathematics and science; recent developments in the content of school mathematics, science and computing; the role of language in the teaching and learning of mathematics and science; perceptions and attitudes to mathematics and science and their popularisation. Students will have an opportunity to concentrate on their particular area of interest or specialisation and will be encouraged to apply some of the issues and ideas raised in the subject to practical settings.
